Hi my name is Juan and I’m a Software engineer Student and Salesforce developer. I attended to Forcelandia 2019 in Portland, Oregon and I would like to talk about all the new things that I learned at Forcelandia, how I feel after all of this experience.
I live in Merida, Mexico, this city is in the south of the Country where Salesforce community is small and new. As a Student leader in Merida’s Student Group I’ve read a lot of papers and articles about Salesforce groups and Communities and their activities, their philosophy and way of being. Now that you have some context, one of the first things that I could see in Forcelandia is the great feeling of being part of a community, I could see everybody working, having fun and sharing knowledge just like If everybody were friends for a long time, and the greatest thing here is that I was part of it since I just landed in Portland.
Feeling part of the party was a great motivation to practice my English and my communication skills and beating up my shame. I remember thinking while I was there that I would like to have this community at home and now I feel motivate to make it happen.
As a Salesforce developer in Merida I used to feel kind of lonely so I can’t speak about Salesforce ecosystem with a lot of people and I know that some other people here feel the same. Now I can see that we are not alone and it doesn’t matter distances or language and I feel responsible for sharing all of this feeling and thoughts with my bodies because I really want to feel what I felt in Portland.
Now I want to talk about the things that I learned from the sessions and speakers. I learned how to manage Salesforce Developers teams and I really liked because It’s something that I can start doing from now!. I really loved the testing sessions because I learned about a lot of good testing practices and I could see why they are necessary. These testing practices are something that I’m excited to talk about in the student group. One of the best sessions was the IOT one, where someone connect Salesforce with Robots! and it was great because I understood how it works and which technology is used. Also I learnt about how to use SFDX with VS Code and use great features of it.
After 2 days of many sessions I have a notebook full of notes that I brought home and many resources like posts and GitHub pages that I’m ready to share. Something very cool is that I could met some of the speakers of this great sessions and now I know how to contact them by Twitter and Linkedin and I’m ready to connect this Salesforce experts with the students in Merida.
I really want to say Thank you to the organizers of Forcelandia, to my school, to Rafael Hernandez and thank you to everybody that said hi and talked to me.
Now I can say that I feel supported by the Salesforce Community and I am ready to support everybody here at home.
